News headlines (Yle, MTV, Ilta-Sanomat, Helsingin Sanomat)

Introduction

Show the latest headlines from Yle Uutiset, MTV Uutiset, Ilta-Sanomat or Helsingin Sanomat on your screens. The News slide shows one headline at a time, full screen, with the publisher's logo, the section, a short summary and the photo when the publisher provides one. It works in landscape and portrait and needs no account or login.

What you need

Before you start:

• A Pro screen (the slide is web content, like the Website slide type).
• Nothing else. The headlines come from the publishers' public news feeds.

Adding a news slide, step by step

In the screen or playlist editor:

• Click Add new slide, open the Web category and pick News.
• Pick a publisher: Yle Uutiset, MTV Uutiset, Ilta-Sanomat or Helsingin Sanomat.
• Pick a section, for example Latest, Domestic, Sports or one of Yle's regions.
• Choose how many headlines to show (1 to 20) and how many seconds each headline stays on screen.
• Check the live preview, click Add news and publish the screen as usual.

How long the slide stays on screen

The slide's duration is set for you: headlines × seconds per headline, so every headline gets its turn before the screen moves on. Eight headlines at 12 seconds each make a 96-second slide. You can still override the duration in the slide's advanced settings.

• Fresh headlines: the slide fetches new headlines by itself every few minutes. The refresh interval in the form (60 minutes by default) is only a safety net that reloads the page.
• Changing the slide later: click Change on the slide to pick another publisher, section or timing. The duration is recalculated.

Available sections

Each publisher offers its own sections:

• Yle Uutiset: top stories, latest, most read, domestic, world, business, politics, culture, entertainment, science, nature, health, traffic, sports, easy Finnish, news in English, every Finnish region, and Svenska Yle's sections in Swedish.
• MTV Uutiset: latest, domestic, world, business, crime, culture, weather, sports, entertainment.
• Ilta-Sanomat: latest, domestic, world, politics, Taloussanomat, sports, entertainment, Digitoday, wellbeing, cars, travel, food, TV and film.
• Helsingin Sanomat: latest, Finland, world, politics, business, sports, culture, science, Helsinki, life, food, editorials.

Any RSS or Atom feed

Next to News there is an RSS feed slide for any feed you have the right to show: a city's official announcements, an intranet news feed, release notes. Paste the feed address; the form checks it and shows the feed's name and how many items it has. The slide looks like the news slide and is named after the feed itself.

• Works with RSS 2.0 and Atom feeds on public sites. Feeds behind a login cannot be read.
• Items with a picture show it; items without use the text layout. Missing dates and summaries are simply left out.
• The feed's own language sets the slide's wording (Finnish, Swedish or English).
• If the address is a web page rather than the feed itself, the form says no items were found; look for the feed's own address on that site.

What the slide looks like

A dark full-screen layout with the publisher's colour as an accent. Each headline shows the publisher's logo, the section, the headline, a one-sentence summary and the source line with how long ago it was published. A thin progress bar shows when the next headline arrives. Stories with a photo show it on the left in landscape and on top in portrait. Yle's feeds contain no photos, so Yle headlines use a text-only layout. The slide's language follows the feed: Svenska Yle sections are in Swedish and Yle's English section in English.

Publishers' terms

The headlines are the publishers' content. InfoBox shows only the title, summary and picture from each publisher's public feed and always names the source. The publisher's own terms apply to showing its headlines, and a publisher may change or withdraw a feed at any time; if that happens the slide shows a short notice instead of headlines.
