Introduction

InfoBox supports a wide range of file formats and URL-based content so you can display diverse content on your screens. Using the right format and size ensures the best quality and smooth playback.

Image formats

Image files supported on screens:

  • JPG / JPEG: great for photos and general use.
  • PNG: supports transparency, ideal for graphics and logos.
  • WebP: lightweight and fast-loading, recommended for modern content.

Tip

Use Full HD (1920×1080 px) resolution for images to ensure sharp quality on all screens. Smaller images get upscaled and may look fuzzy.

Video formats

Video files supported on screens:

  • MP4 (H.264 codec): the only format that actually plays on screens.
  • Videos play automatically in a loop, without sound.
  • Recommended resolution: 1920×1080 (Full HD).
  • Keep file size under 200 MB for fastest loading.

Unsupported video formats

The Media Library upload modal text mentions WEBM and MOV, but those formats do not play on the InfoBox Digital Signage app. The upload may succeed, but the file won't display. Convert before uploading:

  • .mov: convert to MP4 first.
  • .webm: convert to MP4 first.
  • .avi: convert to MP4 first.

Warning

Even though the Media Library upload modal lists WEBM and MOV as accepted, those files won't actually play on screens. Always convert to MP4 (H.264) first using a free tool like HandBrake.

URL-based slide types

Slides built from a URL rather than a file:

  • iFrame: any public HTTPS URL displayed in an embedded frame. Must be a page that allows embedding (no `X-Frame-Options: DENY`).
  • YouTube: paste any standard YouTube video URL. Plays without sound.
  • Power BI: paste a `Publish to web` embed URL. Your Power BI tenant administrator must have Publish to web enabled.

Note

If you paste a Power BI URL and the slide shows nothing, your Power BI tenant likely has Publish to web disabled. Contact your Power BI administrator to enable it.

Document formats

PDF files:

  • PDF: each page becomes its own sub-slide automatically.
  • Useful for menus, multi-page reports, and presentations exported from PowerPoint or Keynote.

Recommendations

For best results:

  • 1920×1080 px resolution for landscape screens, 1080×1920 px for portrait.
  • Image files under 20 MB.
  • Video files under 200 MB, target bitrate 5-10 Mbps for Full HD.
  • MP4 with H.264 codec for every video.
  • iFrame and Power BI: test the URL in a regular browser first to confirm it loads without a login wall.

Summary

InfoBox supports images (JPG, PNG, WebP), MP4 videos (H.264 only), PDFs, iFrame URLs, YouTube URLs, and Power BI dashboards. Stick to MP4 for video, even though the upload modal accepts WEBM and MOV.
