Playlist scheduling vs slide scheduling
When the playlist's schedule applies to all its slides, when individual slides own their own schedules, and how to choose.
Introduction
A playlist contains slides. Both can have schedules, and they can be set up two different ways: the playlist owns one shared schedule for all its slides, OR each slide carries its own. The choice is controlled by a single toggle in the playlist editor: Set individually (FI: Aseta yksittäin).
The Set individually toggle
Two modes, one toggle:
- Set individually OFF (default): the playlist owns one schedule. Every slide in the playlist plays according to the playlist's schedule. Per-slide schedule controls are locked.
- Set individually ON: each slide has its own schedule. The playlist's schedule (if any) is bypassed; per-slide schedules win.
- Find the toggle in the playlist editor's settings panel.
Mode 1: Shared playlist schedule (Set individually OFF)
Use this when the whole playlist is a unit:
- Click Schedule playlist (FI: Ajasta soittolista) at the top of the editor.
- Set the schedule (date range, days of week, daily constraint, show/hide) once.
- Save and publish. All slides in the playlist now follow that schedule.
- If you click on an individual slide, you'll see the message "This playlist has one schedule for all slides. Edit the schedule from playlist settings." (FI: "Tällä soittolistalla on yksi aikataulu kaikille dioille. Muokkaa aikataulua soittolistan asetuksista.")
Tip
Most playlists start in shared mode and never need to switch. Daily and weekly campaigns where every slide plays at the same time are by far the most common pattern.
Mode 2: Per-slide schedules (Set individually ON)
Use this when slides need different schedules:
- Open the playlist editor and toggle Set individually on.
- Click any slide to open its settings.
- Click Ajasta on the slide and set its schedule.
- Repeat for each slide. Different slides can have different schedules now.
- When Set individually is on, the playlist-level schedule no longer applies; per-slide schedules win.
Switching between modes
If you switch from individual back to shared:
- The Platform asks for confirmation: "Apply this schedule to all slides?" (FI: "Sovelletaanko aikataulu kaikille dioille?")
- If you confirm, all individual slide schedules are reset and the playlist's schedule applies to everything.
- This is destructive: per-slide schedules you'd configured are lost. Take a screenshot or notes before switching if you might want them back.
Warning
Switching from per-slide schedules back to a shared playlist schedule destroys the individual schedules permanently. The Platform warns you with a confirmation dialog. Read the warning carefully before clicking Continue.
Which mode is right?
Pick the mode that matches your content shape:
- Shared schedule is right for campaigns where every slide should appear at the same time. Example: a Christmas campaign of 5 slides, all of which should play 23.–26.12.
- Per-slide schedules are right for variety inside a playlist. Example: a daily-news playlist where the morning bulletin plays 07:00–09:00 and the afternoon update plays 15:00–17:00, on the same playlist.
- When in doubt, start with shared. Switch to individual only when you genuinely need it.
Summary
The Set individually toggle in the playlist editor decides who owns scheduling: the playlist (one schedule for all slides) or the slides (each one independent). Default is shared. Switch carefully because going back to shared resets per-slide schedules.
